The traffic seriously started yesterday at 12PM UTC. Almost all of our antennas are now mounted. On the topband, the 160m vertical still needs to be adjusted and the beverage is not yet installed. Our QTH is ideally open to Europe, North America and South America with a direct way over the sea. However we have a problem every day with the tide: the beach is not very wide, with lots of trees, and the waves systematically raise the radials of the vertical antennas. We have mounted the 6el 6m yesterday but had to move it today because of significant HF returns. We should be able to be QRV on 6m very soon.

Le trafic a sérieusement commencé hier à 12h TU. Pratiquement toutes nos antennes sont désormais montées. Concernant la top bande, la verticale 160m a encore besoin d’être réglée et la beverage n’est pas encore installée. Notre QTH est idéalement ouvert sur l’Europe, l’Amérique du Nord et l’Amérique du Sud avec un départ sur la mer. Par contre, nous avons tous les jours un problème avec la marée : la plage n’est pas large, avec beaucoup d’arbres, et les vagues font remonter systématiquement les radians des antennes verticales. Nous avions monté la 6el 6m hier mais avons dû la déplacer aujourd’hui à cause d’importants retours HF. Nous devrions pouvoir être très prochainement QRV 6m.

Safely arrived to Mayotte

After a 12 hours journey, the team arrived this morning on Petite-Terre island where Mayotte airport is located. After joining Grande-Terre island with ferryboat, we arrived at our QTH in the morning, photos will be availablee soon. We installed several antennas this afternoon in order to start this evening on the high bands and 40m but we have a lot of HF returns. We will have to resolve this problem tomorrow and continue to install the low band antennas. QO-100 activity will not start until Saturday after the arrival of HB9GWJ. Stay tuned !

Après 12 heures de voyage, l’équipe est arrivée ce matin sur l’île de Petite-Terre où se situe l’aéroport de Mayotte. Après avoir rejoint l’île de Grande-Terre avec le ferry, nous sommes arrivés à notre QTH en fin de matinée dont vous découvrirez des images prochainement. Nous avons installé plusieurs antennes cet après-midi afin de commencer le trafic ce soir sur les bandes hautes et le 40m mais nous avons beaucoup de retours HF. Nous devrons régler ce problème demain et continuer à installer les antennes bandes basses. L’activité QO-100 ne débutera que samedi après l’arrivée de HB9GWJ. Restez à l’écoute !

It’s D-Day!

It’s D-Day! 11 of us meet at Charles-de-Gaulle airport (Paris) at this afternoon for a takeoff at 08:25 p.m. The arrival in Mayotte is scheduled tomorrow at 7:15 a.m. where we will have to take a ferryboat to another island then 2 hours of driving to reach our QTH. Our 12th operator (HB9GWJ) will not leave until Friday (with QO-100 station) because of a family problem. Stay tuned !

C’est le Jour-J ! 11 opérateurs ont rendez-vous à l’aéroport Charles-de-Gaulle (Paris) cet après-midi pour un décollage à 20:25. L’arrivée à Mayotte est prévue demain à 07:15 où il faudra encore prendre un ferry pour changer d’île puis 2 heures de route pour rejoindre notre QTH. Notre douzième opérateur (HB9GWJ) ne partira que vendredi (avec la station QO-100) suite à un problème d’ordre familial. Restez à l’écoute !

Propagation forecasts

Less than one week before our expedition to Mayotte to start, we have established the propagation forecasts which you can review on our website. Instructions will be given to each operator in order to direct as much as possible their traffic, taking into account possible openings in the most difficult to contact areas. Therefore thank you for respecting the recommendations of the operators such as « SA only » or « VK/ZL only » for example.

A moins d’une semaine du début de notre expédition à Mayotte, nous avons établi les prévisions de propagation que vous pouvez consulter sur notre site. Chaque opérateur aura pour consigne d’orienter autant que possible son trafic en tenant compte des possibles ouvertures dans les zones les plus difficiles à contacter. 44th annual convention of CDXC

The 44th annual convention of Clipperton DX Club was held from September 8 to 10 on Oleron Island (France). Five operators of our future TO8FH expedition (F2DX, F4AZF, HB9GWJ, F4DLM, F5UOW) made a short presentation that you will find in this video.
Since 1978, the Clipperton DX Club has provided material and financial support to many DXpeditions around the world. This is the case of TO8FH.

La 44ème convention annuelle du Clipperton DX Club s’est tenue du 8 au 10 septembre sur l’île d’Oléron (17). Cinq opérateurs de notre future expédition TO8FH (F2DX, F4AZF, HB9GWJ, F4DLM, F5UOW) y ont fait une courte présentation dont vous retrouverez un extrait dans cette vidéo.
Depuis 1978, le Clipperton DX Club a apporté son aide matérielle et financière à de nombreuse expéditions radioamateur à travers le monde. C’est le cas de TO8FH.

Equipment preparation completed

Preparation of equipment for our TO8FH expedition ended this weekend at Radio Club de Provins F6KOP (France). Computers are up to date (thanks F1ULQ and F4DLM), bags and suitcases were completed, closed, and weighed one last time (Thanks F4AJQ and F8GGV). All that remains is to prepare the list of equipment for each piece of luggage intended for Customs. New photos are on our site.

La préparation du matériel de notre expédition TO8FH s’est terminée ce weekend au Radio Club de Provins F6KOP. L’informatique est à jour (merci F1ULQ et F4DLM), les sacs et valises ont été complétés, fermés, et pesés une dernière fois (merci F4AJQ et F8GGV). Il reste juste à préparer la liste du matériel de chaque bagage destinée à la Douane. De nouvelles photos sont sur notre site.

Ready for QO-100 satellite

After the success of our satellite activity last year from D6ØAE where we made 660 QSOs with only 300 mW, we have decided to renew the experience from TO8FH. There has been very few satellite activities in Mayotte and to our knowledge this could be a premiere on QO-100. TO8FH will therefore be active (around 900) on the QO-100 satellite from LH27mc. We also plan to do FT8 and CW. The equipment is composed, in uplink, of a Kuhne 2424 converter + FT817, and in downlink, of a LNC10 QO-100 with a 80 cm dish + FT857. Our satellite specialist is Olivier, HB9GWJ.

Après le succès de notre activité satellite l’année dernière depuis D6ØAE où nous avions réalisé 660 QSO avec seulement 300 mW, nous sommes décidés à renouveler l’expérience depuis TO8FH. Il y a eu très peu d’activité satellite à Mayotte et à notre connaissance, il pourrait s’agir d’une première sur QO-100. TO8FH sera donc actif (aux alentours de 900) sur le satellite QO-100 depuis LH27mc. Il est également prévu d’y faire du FT8 et de la CW. Le matériel est composé, en uplink, d’un convertisseur Kuhne 2424 + FT817, et en downlink, d’un LNC10 QO-100 avec une parabole de 80 cm + FT857. Notre spécialiste satellite sera Olivier, HB9GWJ.

Our team

Our team is made up of 12 operators. Even if the majority is dedicated to CW or SSB everyone will be able to switch to FT8, especially when the propagation conditions are not favorable. We also plan to be active in RTTY and FT4 as we can have up to 7 active stations (including QO-100).

Notre équipe est composée de 12 opérateurs. Même si la majeure partie est dédiée à la CW ou à la SSB, chacun sera en mesure de basculer en FT8 notamment lorsque les conditions de propagation ne seront pas favorables. Nous avons prévu d’être actifs aussi en RTTY et FT4 et nous pourrons avoir jusqu’à 7 stations actives (y compris QO-100).
